Welcome to Take Better Pictures Digital SLR Photography Courses in London

Take Better Pictures runs 2-day weekend photography courses in central London - near London Bridge.

Our courses are aimed at users of Digital SLR Cameras (including the latest Sony, Panasonic and Olympus mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras). If you want to get your DSLR camera off "auto" and start using its full capabilities then we can help. If you are planning to buy a DSLR we can loan you one during the course at no extra cost. We have experience of most Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Pentax and Panasonic DSLR cameras so can help you find your way around your camera.

Unfortunately, most camera manufacturers' user guides are not great at helping you use your camera effectively. They are fine as reference material - e.g. if you cannot remember how to change a specific setting or what a particular symbol means - but they don't really help you understand which setting you should be using and why. This is where our DSLR Beginners Course helps; we will not only help you understand the features of your camera but also provide you with simple strategies to decide the appropraite settings when you are out there shooting.

If you have been using some of the more advanced features of your camera for some time - e.g. shooting in A/Av Exposure Mode, using different Focus Modes and maybe experimenting with RAW images - but need to better understand the implications and opportunities of the different modes then our DSLR Intermediate Course is appropriate to you. This course is especially suitable for photographers wanting to exploit RAW images: shooting RAW provides significant additional opportunities at the image processing stage but does involve much larger file sizes and also the need for more sophisticated image processing software such as Lightroom.

We also run tailored corporate courses for companies wishing to train up staff in taking better photographs for internal and external communications.

All of our courses get consistently high feedback with satisfied students and many of our bookings are based upon word of mouth recommendation from previous students. We keep class sizes small (max. 6 students) to ensure everyone benefits from the course and to keep it fun!

"Just wanted to thank you again for the course at the weekend. I finally feel like I know what I'm doing with my camera rather than just playing with it! I will certainly recommend your courses to anyone I know who gets a DSLR"

Why Choose Take Better Pictures?

It is always a challenge to choose a course when all you have to go on is the website. So why choose Take Better Pictures?

We like to think that we offer a rare combination of courses that are:

  • Professionally structured to assist the learning process - we understand teaching & communications not just photography
  • We understand your needs. We won't overload you with too many new concepts and excessive, irrelevant technical detail
  • Our courses are fun. Everyone enjoys the weekend!
  • We get great feedback and many bookings are the result of personal recommendations to friends and family of students
  • We have a great venue - 5 minutes from Borough Market, the Thames and some fascinating buildings and areas

"I was really impressed with you clear information and delivery and learnt a great deal – I definitely feel more comfortable using my camera now (off automatic of course!)  Thanks again for doing such a great job – will definitely recommend this course to friends."

Own a Compact (Mirrorless) System camera?

If you own a Sony Nex, Olympus Pen  / OM-D or Panasonic G / GF / GH / GX compact system camera (also called mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras) then these have the full range of controls and operate very similarly to tradition DSLR cameras and hence are suitable for our Digital SLR Beginners Course. You will learn how to take control of the camera and use its full capabilities rather than just using it like a point & shoot camera.

Are you planning to purchase a Digital SLR?

Why not come on our Digital SLR Beginners Course first. We can loan you a camera during the course (at no additional cost) and afterwards you will be much better placed to know what suits your needs and what to buy. We have a wide range of Canon, Nikon, Panasonic and Sony cameras available.

Searching for the ideal gift for a budding photographer?

Why not buy a gift voucher for one of our courses? You can buy a place on a specific course (e.g. DSLR Beginner) or a voucher for a specific value.

Gift Vouchers can be ordered online.
