Digital SLR Intermediate Course

The 2-day Digital SLR Intermediate course takes you beyond the basics of camera control and shooting to help you take the step up to the next level.

The course is suitable for users of all Digital SLR cameras including the latest mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras such as the Sony Nex, Panasonic G/GH/GF series and Olympus Pen series.

The course assumes that you are familiar with the basic controls of your camera including the creative modes (P/Av/Tv/M, P/A/S/M) although you may not always know why you should choose one mode rather another.

One of the key areas we cover is the use of Raw images. These have significant advantages but also come at a cost in terms of much larger file sizes and, more significantly, the need for greater image processing sophistication to get to a desirable end result. During the course we explain the real benefits of Raw; often photographers shoot Raw because they have been "told its better" but don't really understand why this is so. We also cover the need for and capabilities of using software such as Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture.

The course covers:

  • Cameras and lenses
  • Raw images and image processing
  • Exploiting the camera exposure and control modes
  • Advanced white balance management
  • Advanced flash techniques
  • Macro photography
  • Advanced shooting techniques
  • Image processing - software, processes, output etc.
  • Clinic / troubleshooting

The course consists of clasroom sessions, outdoor photoshoots and reviews of the pictures taken.

Course is limited to 6 students to ensure that everyone gets the attention they need and ensure the material can be adjusted to the individuals' knowledge and experience.
